Brigstock Latham’s Church of England Primary School
There’s evidence that a school has existed in Brigstock since at least the sixteenth century – the original building had fallen into disrepair by 1598. It was revived and re-endowed by Reverend Latham of Barnwell, whose family owned a number of tenements in the village.
Corby Old Village Primary School
This school opened as Corby British School in 1834. Unlike the nearby National School, it provided free education to children in around Corby. By 1840, it had drawn away almost all of the children who had attended the National School.
Corby National School
Opening in 1815, this was one of the earliest schools in Northamptonshire to open as part of the National School scheme.
In its early days, it was positively thriving; it taught up to sixty boys as a day school, and just as many girls as a Sunday School. But as a fee-charging school, its numbers plummeted when the free British School was established. It seemed to limp on for a while, supported by the Earl of Cardigan, until it closed some time in late nineteenth century.
Gretton Primary School
The original school was build in 1853.
It was replaced in 1908 by the current school.
Rockingham National School
Now the Village Hall, this school opened in 1844 and was built by the Hon Richard Watson of Rockingham Castle.
Stanion Church of England Primary School
The original school was built in 1840. It later became the village hall.
Weldon Church of England Primary School
Before the Education Act 1870, this school was funded entirely by voluntary subscriptions and donations, mostly from the Earl of Winchelsea, the Reverend Finch Hatton, and the Northamptonshire National Society.
